Rhodonite & Porphyry Prism Earrings
Pieces of Rhodonite and Porphyry are cut and polished by Alison Jean Cole and combined together in long prism to form these hanging earrings. The stones are 26mm at their widest and the earrings hang 38mm on hammered sterling silver wire.
The pink Rhodonite hails from the high mountains of British Columbia. It is a silicate mineral rich in manganese which imparts the rich pink color. Porphyry is also known as chinese writing rock. Alison collected this material along the shores of Wallowa Lake in Oregon. Porphyry is a type of granite, most often the white crystals are feldspar captured in a fine grained matrix of schist.
